Product Description

What is Alginate Dressing?
Alginate dressing is the medical dressing of mixture of fiber and calcium ion from the natural seaweed.
Early use of alginate dressing consisted of fibers of calcium alginate formed into a loose fleece. Recently, this structure has been improved by entangling the fibers so that the dressing is stronger when it becomes soaked with blood or exudate. Alginate dressings can absorb 15-20 times their own weight in exudate and are manufactured in a range of products including flat sheets, ropes, and ribbons. Rope and ribbon dressings are used to pack cavity wounds, while flat sheets are used on surface wounds. Some products are self-adhesive but an appropriate secondary dressing is often used to keep the alginate in place and contain excess exudate.

How does Alginate Dressing Assist in Healing?
When used to dress a wound which is exuding heavily, the calcium ions in the dressing interact with the sodium ions in the fluid of the wound. This reaction makes the fiber in the dressing to swell and partially dissolve into a gel. How much the alginate dressing swells depends on the chemical composition of the product and the botanical source.

Features:

1.Good absorbency and gelation capacity.
2. Viscosity coefficient>800cp, Ash<0.5%, fiber denier:1.5D, strength:1.5g/D, Elongation>10%.
3.Water absorption≥10, bacteriostasis ratio>80%. Pieces and strips are available.

Mechinism:

1. Good absorbency.
2. There is gel on the surface of the wound to provide moist environment which could promote the wound healing.
3. Ca+⇄Na+ could be exchanged, Ca+ can active prothrombin and accelerate the cruor.
4. Protect nerve terminals and reduce the pain.
5. Fiber could be bulgy after absorbing, and bacteria could be locked between fibers.Therefore the dressing is bacteriostatic.

Characteristics

1. It is the mixture of natural seaweed and Calcium ion,and has good biocompatibility.
2. Gel could be formed when the dressing absorbs exudates and blood, it could protect the would area and promote the wound healing.
3. The dressing has excellent absorbency, it is soft and comfortable.
4. Release of Calcium ion , could activate prothrombin and could stop bleeding effectively.
5. No adherence to the wound, it will protect the nerve terminals, reduce pain and easy to be peeled off.
6.Maceration of the skin around will not occur.
7.It is biologically degradable and environment-friendly.
8.It is soft and can be used to fill the wound, and enhance the growth of the cavity.

Applications

1. All kinds of moderate and heavy exudated wounds.
2.All kinds of acute and chronic wounds hemorrhagic wounds.
3.All kinds of difficult healing wounds such as leg ulcer, bedsore, diabetic ulcer, post-operative wounds of tumour and abscess.
4.Skin-donor sites.
5.All kinds of lacuna, antrum wounds, post-operative wounds of cavity sinus, exodontia.

Usage:
 

1. Wipe the surrounding of wound with a cotton swab.
2. Peel off the clear PU paper.
3. Cover the wound.
4. Use the bandage to fix the alginate wound dressing.

Cautions

1. It is not suitable for dry wounds.
2. Make sure the wound area is clean and dry before using dressing.
3. Alginate dressing should be 2cm bigger than the wound area to make sure that dressing could cover skin completely.
4. The dressing should be stayed on wound less than one week.
5. When the exudates decrease, it suggests to change to another kind of dressing, such as hydrocolloid dressing.
6. Make sure the size, depth of the cavity wound before using, fill the wound from bottom. Don't left dead space, or may affect the wound healing.
